Design decisions behind Self Map

Self Map was shaped by many small removals. The goal is not to show many features, but to make writing and action feel clear.

Too many buttons made the app harder

Delete, connect, write next, start action, reflect. Each button can be useful, but together they make the screen noisy. On a phone, too many visible controls make the user wonder what matters.

The design moved toward showing core actions only when they are needed. Even wording matters: a clear “Delete” is safer than a vague symbol.

Lines help, but they can also distract

Connection lines show how cards relate to each other. At the same time, many lines can make the board hard to read. The current design keeps lines visible, but emphasizes the selected card’s relationships.

Ad space

No ads in the writing surface

Self Map may have reading pages that support ads, but the writing screen should stay quiet. People write personal feelings and assumptions there. The tool should not interrupt that moment.
